What is guildtag?

Guildtag is a social network for MMO gamers that specializes in free guild hosting. Our social network lets you find gaming friends, join guilds, upload images, and write blogs. Our guild hosting enhances communication within your guild that can give you the needed edge to be successful in any MMO.

Ad Free Guild Hosting!?

Our guild hosting tools are absolutely free. More importantly, there won't be any ads displayed for members of your guild if they are active on the guildtag social network. You won't find that offer at other guild hosting sites.

Social Network Changes & Guildsite Ads - April 03

The profile pages on the social network have changed a bit. Users now have a News page that shows them what their friends have been up to all on one screen. Users also have an Activity page where quick comments can be left. Items on the Activity page can also be commented on. These changes are still being tested, if there are significant issues all Activity item comments will be wiped.

There are several things missing from the new profile pages and activity comments.
1) Voting. This is probably not coming back.
2) Some sub sections like looking for guild, and theme submission are missing. They will be added back eventually.
3) Bio. Still deciding what to do with this.
4) Other stuff I didn't even think of...

I'm going to be enhancing and pushing the Social Network in hopes of getting more ad clicks to pay for hosting costs. Users that are not active* on the social network will see ads on guildsites. These ads will only be placed on forum pages for the time being and won't be too intrusive (google ads, no popups). I'll add an option for guildsites to donate to a paypal account if they'd like to keep their guildsites free of ads even if users are not active on the social network.

If you have any concerns with these changes I'm open to feedback.

* Active is subjective and the definition of it will change over time. Initially the definition will be that you've added your characters to your profile and you check your profile every N days.

Who pulled the boss?!?! ... Wipe it. - March 18

Guildsite changes are incoming this weekend, and they're carrying a huge club to smash faces with. This is a heads up to prepare you all for some possibly breaking changes to your guildsites.

Quick Theme Base Template
The quick theme template is changing. I've done what I can to make this change seamless for most guildsites. This change will not affect anyone using a pure CSS template. An example of the new base template can be found here http://newpreview.guildtag.com/

The base template CSS has been cleaned up. This will be a good starting point for someone to alter a quick theme into a custom css theme. You can view your quick theme css by viewing the page source of your guildsite. We will be posting simple tutorials to get you started on modifying a quick theme in the guildsite customization forum.

Quick Theme Editor
This screen has been simplified greatly. Many of the color pickers have been removed, and instead we will be using shades of your chosen colors to create a consistent look and feel.
The concept of "light" and "dark" theming has been changed. You can now choose a light or dark overlay for your header and navigation elements. These overlays pick up your base color and will no longer generate a hoard of images on the server. This overlay is only visible to users of IE7+ and Firefox (probably some other browsers also). These should fail gracefully in IE6-. If you look at the site and see display issues please let me know, and then upgrade your browser.
The color picker for quick themes has been changed. The new color picker allows you to choose any color available (you can still type in a specific hex value).

Forums
The look and feel of forums has been changed significantly. This involved adding new css classes to the forum html, so if you had custom css in your guildsite this will probably break it.
You can now add moderators to a forum. You may be able to add sub forums to a forum - we are still deciding. If you'd like this feature added please respond to this post.
Most of the administration of forums is still the same. A couple things may work a little differently, but I'm sure you'll figure them out ;) Forum changes can also be seen here http://newpreview.guildtag.com/

That's about it for this release, though it has been several weeks in the making. If you have any feedback please respond to this thread.
